He did not look more than 4 inches shorter than George Foreman (6ft 3, 191 cm). He always gave out that pretty tall height. I think at least 5'11 or fifty-fifty taller. Mayhap 5'xi 1/iv or ane/2.

Idk he seems like a legit 5-11 to me. He frequently looks iii inches shorter than Ali which would make him five'-11.5, some of this may exist do to foot vesture and camera angle and for the fact the Ali wasn't a legit 6'3. Here's a slap-up, less often seen photo of Ali and Joe when young. The natural assumption is some reward to Ali in dress shoe heel vs Joe in flat boxing shoes. Maybe the biggest height pull I've seen Ali concord over Joe in any given photo.

Personally, I recall 5'x.5" is a good guess. Joe wore decent heels a lot. Next to Ali, Joe ever appeared that flake taller exterior the ring than in. I don't think Joe was insecure or trying to requite a false impression. It simply would've been preferable, at least outside the ring, to be able to amend "confront upwards" to opponents that were almost always notably taller.

@MikeSui: I call back Joe was a fraction taller just yeah, I agree that they were 5 similar in superlative. I'd give Frazier a pinnacle, fighting height of five ft 10.5 to 5 ft xi (179 - 180 cm) and Tyson a peak fighting height of 5 ft x to 5 ft 10-and-1-quarter (around 178 cm).

I can easily believe Frazier wasn't much taller than Rob by his tardily 60s, but I always thought he was more 5'9" range meridian than a full 5'10". He did sometimes wear decent heels...there was a testify with Cavett and Michael parkinson and Joe seemed taller than Michael I idea, but those heels are quite big.

I idea that Frazier was five ft eleven (180 cm) alpine during his superlative fighting yrs, so I can accept your five ft 10.5 (179 cm) height estimate for him. I yet think Fraz could take been a max of 5 ft 11 tall as he didn't seem 4 inches shorter than 6 ft 2.5 inch tall Ali. I always saw a three to iii-and-a-half inch gap between Ali & Fraz. However, I did feel that Fraz was towered past the 6 ft three-and-a-quarter inch alpine Foreman. So your 5 ft 10.five inch estimate for Joe might just be perfect!

There are plenty of photos out there of Frazier, in his 60s, with Mike Tyson. Frazier looks to exist 5'8 to 5' 8 i/2" range. Did he really lose 2 inches + by his 60s?

I did once see Joe up shut a decade or and so ago, it was at one of the NEC birmingham events, he really wasn't that much taller than myself, I was surprised. Only he did look like he'd lost over an inch in height equally in the lxx'southward seemed over 5ft 10 I thought.
